Amber Cheema

LAWYER | MEDIATOR | COLLABORATIVE DIVORCE PROFESSIONAL (she/her)

Amber is a staunch advocate for providing families with long-term, solutions-driven resolutions. Early in her practice, Amber recognized the importance of providing families in British Columbia options outside of litigation. This led her to obtaining her collaborative training in 2019 and to becoming a family law mediator in 2020 making her one of the youngest family law mediators in the province at that time. Though Amber strives to keep families outside of court, her fine-tuned litigation skills make her a strong advocate in a courtroom when necessary. Since 2019, Amber has been assisting families in addressing their family law needs while obtaining positive outcomes for her clients. Amber obtained her BA from McGill University and obtained her LLB (Honors) and LLM (Distinction) from the University of Kent.

As counsel, Amber has successfully mediated a number of family law matters with noteworthy results such as obtaining six figure lump sum spousal support for her client. Amber’s litigation prowess rivals that of her negotiating skills having successfully appealed a Master’s order on a shortened time and obtaining a number of positive results for families in a courtroom. Amber's recent experience in international child abduction matters under the Family Law Act resulted in a parent being quickly reunited with their young children. Outside of the Family Law Act and Divorce Act, Amber has experience in the Hague Convention and in judicial reviews of immigration matters. Amber has appeared at the Provincial Court of British Columbia, Supreme Court of British Columbia, and the Federal Court of Canada.

When she is not in the office, Amber can be found exploring the culinary scenes in different cities around the world and has been deemed by her friends “an expert” of the food landscape in Vancouver. Amber is an avid reader and can often be found cozying up at home reading. After climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in 2007,  Amber caught the travel bug and is currently hoping to visit all seven continents before 2030. Amber zest for life and memorable laugh is part of why she is a welcomed addition to the Kitsilano Family Law team.

Amber is able to serve clients in Punjabi.
