William ‘Bill’ R. Storey
LAWYER | FOUNDER (RETIRED) (he/him)
Bill was called to the B.C. Bar in 1980. He practiced family law in BC for over forty years from 1982 until he retired in 2024.
Bill founded Kitsilano Family Law in 1984. At the time he was working as a sole practitioner until he began to expand his practice in 2011. Bill managed Kitsilano Family Law until 2019, where he transitioned into a semi-retired position focusing on parenting coordination and mentoring the Kitsilano Family Law team. Bill's interest in child custody cases developed into a unique expertise in international child custody cases, in particular cases involving cross border parental child abductions. Prior to his retirement Bill was a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers. He was also a trained and dedicated mediator and parenting coordinator and acted as a child advocate representing children in high conflict custody cases. He was a member of the BC Hear the Child Society, a group that produces Hear the Child or Voice of the Child reports in custody cases.
Bill always felt it was a privilege to be a lawyer, to have his own practice and be able to help families in crisis resolve their issues. As a result he was a big believer in "giving back". He was and remains a big believer in the importance of taking on legal aid cases and doing cases pro bono. For many years he regularly undertook free legal clinics via Access Pro Bono at which he provided advice to low income people in family law cases without charge. In addition for many years he did fundraising for Access Pro Bono and was usually one of their top fundraisers.
